Meet Melissa

Hi, I am Melissa and love to create and work with my hands.  I went to cosmetology school 20 years ago and fell in love with the trade immediately.

I specialize in straight hair, but also love textured hair and hope to make natural texture my focus moving forward. Lived in colour has always been something I’ve strived to achieve for my clients. Whether it be on the lighter or darker side of the colour palette. A lived in haircut also achieves the same goal of creating longevity for a style. Using various texturizing methods, I love being able to create and give movement and flow within a haircut.

There are so many aspects of being a stylist, and all that it encompasses that gives me such a creative outlet. Having a Visual Arts degree adds to my ability create; with an alternative view on composition, colour, texture, patterns, which allows me to fully create the look you’re looking for.

Something amazing that I fully embrace is the ability to be a forever learner. Amazing access to education means that Im fortunate enough to be able to learn and stay on top of what’s next in the industry because it’s always evolving. I have taught hairstyling techniques to artists for an art/science performance at a local theatre, mentored students in the salon, and have also worked on a few film sets throughout my career!

In my spare time I like to spend time with my partner and son. My son is 4 years old and I continue to learn new things everyday being his mother. We go to art galleries, museums, and nature hikes. I also like to travel, bike, and do photography. With a husband who commissions work as a photographer, this gives me yet another creative outlet where I can assist him as a secondary shooter, but also utilize my hair passion for his clients so they’re camera read every time.
