Meet Jennessa

Jennessa, the owner & CEO of Bounce Hair Boutique, has been in the hair industry for 21 years (weird because she’s only 25!). Never one to shy away from a challenge or continuing to expand her knowledge, she’s been instrumental in the world of curly and textured hair and an international educator as a texture specialist.

Over the last two decades she’s never stopped learning and has been a solid voice for changes in the hair industry that were rooted in ancient ideology and quite frankly, racism. She advocates for changes within the industry to bring success and wealth to those who have chosen this as a career, so that they can follow their passion and not “do hair on the side” of whatever other job they need to have to make ends meet. She is most passionate about creating constructive, positive, empowering and supportive team cultures in all of her endeavours. She believes that we are strongest when we work together and in amplifying the voices that are all too often systemically unheard.

Elevating the perception of a feminized industry that has been drastically hit by COVID 19 is her new undertaking, disrupting the norm and rebuilding a wheel that has been broken.

As one of the newest coaches, and the first and only Canadian coach, for Destroy the Hairdresser (DTH) she is committed to helping other salons and their owners realize their own strength and capacity to create and run a successful and inclusive space. From DTH student to coach, she understands the journey that each of her students is on. She focuses on encouraging them to be able to find the answers and solutions and understanding their own personal responsibilities and emotional intelligence while providing the support that she embraced as a student.

When she opened Bounce, it was with the idea that curly and texture haired individuals needed a space that was truly about them. One where their hair needs were listened to and the love was given. And that’s what she did. Over the last 8 years since Bounce’s inception, and with all that the pandemic threw at small businesses, the salon has continued to evolve and is now currently in it’s third, and largest space and employs 18 stylists, whose specialties range from curly to straight to colour to cutting specialists. A full service salon, cutting and colour, that is non-gender specific, without add ons or additional charges and gratuity free, where there is a stylist for everyones needs and desires. She has created a salon that is full of life; both human and plant! And a space where clients and stylists can be free to be their authentic selves, embrace their individuality and create beautiful art.

Working with Jennessa has been an honour. Not only is she a great mentor in the hair world but she helps you come out of your shell and be your best self. She has helped me set goals and boundaries that I achieved to this day not just as a stylist but as an individual as well.”
Emerson, Stylist & Blonding specialist

“I love working with Jennessa! She is the change we need in this industry. I love being part of that. Having her knowledge and guidance, as well as support makes me love my career even more”
Chloe, Stylist and Colour Specialist
